Welcome to the Home Page for the City of Wasilla Comprehensive Plan Update.
The City of Wasilla is updating its Comprehensive Plan, and has teamed with USKH to prepare this important document. A Comprehensive Plan guides Planning Commission and City Council decision-making related to capital improvements, land use, economic development and transportation.
An important part of this planning effort is a strategy and urban design for re-establishing downtown Wasilla as a town center. A downtown planning and design charrette was recently concluded, and the results have been received with enthusiasm.
The City of Wasilla offers attractive, livable residential neighborhoods, and great retail and industrial development opportunities, but faces numerous challenges. The City is experiencing unprecedented growth pressures and is recognized as one of America’s fastest growing communities. Thus, a focus of the plan is to develop strategies to relieve “growth pains” and establish future directions. Now is the time to act!
Project Scope:
The planning process includes:
- Public Involvement
- Community Survey
- Collect and Analyze Data
- Demographics
- Physical Characteristics
- Cultural Characteristics
- Transportation
- Land Use
- Economic Development
- Winter City Audit
- Develop Community Vision, Goals and Objectives
- Downtown Development
- Implementation Strategy

The first steps in any planning process are to ask the people of the town what type of community they want to live in, now and in the future. Surveys will be mailed out to 350 City of Wasilla households within the next week.
If you receive one of these, we ask that you complete the mailed questionnaire instead and return it as quickly as possible.
The online surveys will be tallied separately from the mailed survey results. Please take the time to fill out this questionnaire as it is a very important part of the public involvement process. We appreciate your time and thoughtful responses.
