Public Meetings
Various meeting events will be scheduled you can attend. Dates will be posted on this website, and through ads in the paper, flyers posted on bulleting boards, and public announcements will air on the radio. Refreshments will be available at these events and we encourage you to come and share your ideas and concerns.
Planning Commission Meetings
The Wasilla Planning Commission is the city appointed board charged with preparing the Comprehensive Plan. Citizens may attend the regularly scheduled monthly meetings, hear project updates and provide comments.
Website
This website has been created just for the Comprehensive Plan. As time progresses, more and more content will be added to provide planning project information and another tool to engage the community.
The goal is to provide Comprehensive Plan information about upcoming Comprehensive Plan events, background information,
draft materials, public notices and links. This site is linked to the Planning Department of the City of
Wasilla website as well. It includes direct email links to the USKH team to enable citizens
to provide comments directly to the consultants.
Community Survey
A random, statistically valid telephone and mail-in survey is being developed to identify and measure community attitudes on a variety of issues and topics. At least 300 valid surveys will be completed. The survey will also be available on this website and tabulated independently.
Senior Citizens
We want to reach out to
senior citizens and retired persons, and will conduct a specific workshop to meet special needs by holding a meeting during the daytime hours, perhaps at a Senior Center
or other suitable location.
Youth
As with senior citizens, youth are often overlooked as a group with ideas and
concerns about the community. In the public involvement process we plan to reach out to youth by working
with the school district to identify youth to participate in the planning process!
Community Visioning Workshop/Charrette
The public meetings will be followed by charrette events, the USKH team will use various technologies to effectively communicate plan concepts to all participants. A total of two Community Visioning Workshops and Charrette sessions will be conducted to engage citizens in the planning process. These visioning sessions are designed to identify issues and opportunities, prioritization and achieving consensus.
Focus Group Charrette and Workshops
As the planning process proceeds, there will likely be a need for stakeholder focus groups interested in a specific topic, such as economic development, downtown development, housing, and other areas of special interest. These groups will likely be composed of 6-10 citizens with a range of viewpoints and
an interest in committing to action-oriented, consensus building discussions on controversial and challenging topics.
The information gathered from these events and sessions will be processed, organized and eventually put into a new updated comprehensive plan.
